Acceptable Use Policy

Poet Tips is a kind of digital “community garden”, designed to help people explore, experience, and enjoy the richness and diversity of poetry. As such, it relies on real people making contributions to the site over time in order for it to continue to grow and thrive.

In order to keep Poet Tips tidy for all to enjoy, there are two fundamental guidelines that we ask you to adhere to whenever making a contribution to the site:

  1. All poet names submitted should be the names of real poets
  2. All tips submitted should be made in the spirit of a genuine recommendation

The first guideline is easy to understand–any text contributed that is not the name of a real person, or is the name of a real person who is not a poet, should be flagged for removal and deleted.

Secondly, while we recognise that many factors go in to making a recommendation, there are also types of recommendations clearly outside the spirit of the site. Recommendations including but not limited to those intended to insult, defame, harass–as well as any recommendations based more on associations of race, gender or sexual identity, attitude, politics or involvement in recent news or controversies rather than on aesthetic similarity–should likewise be flagged for removal and deleted.

You should also remember that you are legally responsible for whatever you write online. By contributing to this site, you undertake to indemnify us against any liability arising from any obscene, defamatory, seditious, blasphemous or other statement published by you, or any breach of confidentiality, copyright or other intellectual property rights, and against all damages, losses, claims and costs (including without limitation fines and expenses arising out of or incurred in conducting or defending any proceedings) arising from any such statements.

You will not use the site in a manner that adversely affects the availability of its resources to other users. You will not post any material that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libellous, or otherwise objectionable.

By using this website, you agree to abide by these acceptable use guidelines. Failure to do so may result in your contributions being removed and/or your access to the website being restricted or revoked. The website owner and appointed moderators of the site retain the right to do so at any time, at our sole discretion, immediately, and without notice.

If you see anything that does not appear to be in the spirit of the acceptable use policy, please use the flag button () to bring it to our attention right away.
